Seattle Green Spaces Coalition works with community groups and city officials to re-purpose public lands for public benefit.
We help create opportunities for communities to come together and choose the best ways to re-use city-owned public land — for pocket parks, P-Patches, play fields, habitats, tree banks, and other healthy purposes. Besides its parks, the City of Seattle owns more than 400 acres of green space and public land which it considers “excess” or “surplus” to its needs. These lands benefit our neighborhoods and the city as a whole, and they’re valuable for creating Seattle’s sustainable future.
The SGSC supports re-purposing surplus land for long-term public benefits. It is an innovative way to build open space into Seattle’s increasing urban density. It also helps Seattle meet its carbon reduction, tree canopy, urban forest and other environmental goals, and support the city’s Equity & Environment Agenda.
Join us as we re-imagine and appreciate Seattle’s green space, and have fun doing it with our partnership
